So, over the weekend North Carolina got hit by some nasty tornadoes. 60+ tornadoes in just a few hours, that's just a massive amount. My boyfriend and I were in Fayetteville when it all went down Saturday. I had no idea the weather was supposed to be that bad. Had I known, I would have stayed home. (Note to self: Check the news more often.) Anyway, we were at a flea mall, wasting time when the power went out. Everyone in the mall rushed outside into the light. The sky looked horrible. The clouds above the mall began to visibly rotate very slowly. I was like, "Oh, shit. That's not good." I grabbed ~EightBitThief , got in the car and got out of there as fast as I could. Thank goodness to my knowledge that that particular tornado never completely formed .
Anyway, traffic was horrible with no functioning stop lights to control traffic. I ended up pulling over near Cross Creek Mall hoping that the electricity would come back on. I'm really glad I pulled over. Had I not, we might have been exactly where the tornado went across Highway 87 when it did. So, after about an hour we started to head back into Spring Lake area from Fayetteville. We ended up being turned around on 87 due to the damage. (This picture was taken near where we were at. [link] ) Traffic pushed us on the The All American, which takes you onto Fort Bragg. Trees were ripped up all along the road. You could see damaged houses through the trees. When we got to the entrance, I had to get my car searched 'cause I'm not military personnel. I've never been in Bragg before. We got really lost. Took the better part of an hour to get out.
Power was out in Spring Lake, too. We ended up going to the hotel, ~EightBitThief 's mom works at. We made it there just as we were about to run out of gas. Ended up staying there for two nights. Our home was without power and water but ok. The hotel had no power as well but at least it had water. I was worried about our 'Horde of Kitties'. All seven cats are perfectly fine and happy. Power came on late last night.
I had heard about the damage in Sanford but we didn't see it until this morning on the way to the college. The Lowe's in Sanford is completely decimated. A friend of mine works there but I found out he was ok this morning. I'm glad. I was really worried. The Sanford tornado formed and landed just in front of my Great grandmother's house. She and her home are ok, just a few trees were ripped up. I was so worried about her when I heard. As far as I know, no one in my family or his got hurt during the tornadoes. My best wishes to those whose homes were damaged and destroyed and those who lost loved ones.
Man, this was a scary weekend.
The Doctor is OUT .
